HAF Launches Hindu American Physicians in Seva Program (HAPiS)

Long Island, NY (March 4, 2011) - The Hindu American Foundation launched its newly developed Hindu American Physicians in Seva (HAPiS) program earlier this year. HAPiS, conceived by HAF Executive Council Member Dr. Arvind Chandrakantan, aims to encourage, support, and highlight international medical seva in partnership with other international medical volunteerism projects and NGOs.
On January 28, a team of four HAF member physicians, including HAF Board member Dr. Aseem Shukla, traveled to India to spend a week at the second largest public hospital in Asia, performing complex surgeries to those in need. The trip was co-sponsored by the Utah-based International Volunteers in Urology, the most prominent overseas urology volunteer mission group.
India Abroad covered this first HAPiS trip in a four page spread in its magazine. Click here to download the spread, which includes pieces by all of the physicians who traveled to India earlier this year.
