Featured Speaker: Acharya Shunya Pratichi Mathur

Acharya Shunya is an internationally recognized ​Vedic ​teacher. She is founder of Vedika Global, a wisdom school of Vedanta, Ayurveda, and Yoga in Bay Area, California. Acharya was born into a Vedic lineage, and spent 14 years studying Vedic scriptures in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, India. She has revived elements of the traditional Indian Gurukulam education system by establishing a ​Vedic Gurukulam, wherein select international students are being groomed deeply. Her Gurukulam students lead staff trainings at Stanford School of Medicine and California Probation Departments. Acharya Shunya is President of the California Association of Ayurvedic Medicine, a​nd​ advisor to ​national and international organizations including ​the Government of India. She is also a bestselling author and sought-after speaker, delivering keynote addresses to audiences including: World Ayurveda Congress, National Ayurvedic Medical Association, UCLA, and ​UCSF. Acharya Shunya was named amongst the top 100 Ayurveda and Yoga trailblazers in United States by Spirituality & Health Magazine.

Featured Speaker: CA Assemblymember Ash Kalra (D - San Jose)

Ash Kalra was elected to serve in the California State Assembly in 2016, representing the 27th Assembly District. In 2008, Ash made history as the first Hindu and first Indian-American to be elected to the San Jose City Council. Ash has been a law professor at Lincoln Law School of San Jose, taught at San Jose State University, and inner city Washington, D.C. high schools. He was an attorney for the Santa Clara County Public Defender's Office for 11 years. Ash served on the non-profit boards of Somos Mayfair, the Asian Law Alliance, the South Asian Bar Association, Fresh Lifelines for Youth, Santa Clara County Bar Association, and co-founded Hayes Neighborhood Association. He holds a B.A. in Communications from the University of California, Santa Barbara and a J.D. from Georgetown University. No stranger to advocacy, Ash speaks out to improve schools, transportation options, cleaner environment, providing tools for effective public safety and fighting to restore various police units.

Emcee: Lisa Amin

Lisa Amin Gulezian is a general assignment reporter for ABC7 News, primarily working out of San Francisco. She joined ABC7 in March of 2008. She began her reporting career at KHSL, in Chico, CA; then went to WDSI in Chattanooga, TN; WTHR in Indianapolis; KTXL in Sacramento; and KNTV in San Jose. Lisa has covered several high profile stories, locally, including the Scott Peterson murder trial, as well as internationally, like the tsunami that devastated Southeast Asia. Lisa won a Northern California area Emmy Award in 2010 with her ABC team for evening newscast. She was also honored with an Edward R. Murrow award for a series in Honduras, where she traveled with an American medical group that helped villagers in the most rural parts of the country. She is also a two time recipient of the South Asian Journalism Award for Outstanding Story Telling.

Lisa is tri-lingual in English, Spanish, and Gujarati. She attended UC Berkeley and double majored in American Literature and Mass Communications. Lisa is a Bay Area native but has lived all over the country and has traveled extensively throughout the world. When she's not working, Lisa enjoys using her passport as much as possible. She's visited 20 countries and enjoys surfing, reading, practicing yoga, and spending time with her family. Lisa and her husband stay busy with their 2 year old daughter, Shanti. Lisa's parents are from Gujarat, India. Lisa Amin Gulezian is a proud member of the Indo-American community. 

Emcee: Ravi Kapur

Award-winning journalist Ravi Kapur is the founder and CEO of Diya TV, America’s first 24/7 South Asian broadcast television network airing to more than 70 million people in a dozen markets around the nation. In addition, Ravi owns and operates television stations in San Francisco, Chicago and Fargo that broadcast 40 program streams of major network, sports and minority-focused content. He is the first Indian-American to own a full power television station in the United States.

His first broadcast venture, KAXT, became America's most diverse television station, incubating networks and hyperlocal programming for the Bay Area’s African-American, Hispanic, South Asian, Vietnamese, Chinese, Taiwanese, Korean and Filipino communities. Ravi led KAXT to its first-ever Emmy award in 2013 and nomination as Television Station of the Year by Broadcast Engineering in 2010.

Ravi served as an anchor, reporter and producer for ABC, CBS & NBC affiliates in Northern California, Oregon & Tennessee, enterprising stories that changed local laws, altered big business practices and held area politicians accountable. He has provided expert testimony before the FCC and Congress, was a Broadcast Leadership fellow of the National Association of Broadcasters, and last year was inducted into the MMTC Hall of Fame for his commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion in media & telecommunications.

Hailing from Florida, this unique musical group of singers, instrumentalists and dancers blends music from the East and West. Trailblazers of a unique and multiform sound, "WAHH!" is rooted in India's rich traditional musical culture enveloped in an artful weave of Jazz, Rock and Funk. Reflecting prominent, traditional Indian and strong Western influences, "WAHH!" also showcases subtle influences from the Middle East and Africa.
