HAF is Hiring Fulltime Staff Position: California Regional Associate Director

The position of California Regional Associate Director will develop and expand HAF’s presence throughout all parts of the state, including Northern, Central, and Southern California, as well as bordering states in the Western region. This will include designing and implementing advocacy and programmatic initiatives; increasing HAF’s fundraising capacity; and building relationships with key local, state, and federal policy makers, interfaith, civil rights, and community leaders, in order to educate them on important issues of concern to the Hindu American community. This position is new to the organization so the Associate Director will have some opportunity to build and carry forward his or her vision and function. This role requires an outgoing, highly energetic individual with excellent communication, research/writing, and organizational skills who can successfully accomplish the following:

  1. Advocacy and programmatic initiatives
    1. Monitor local and state based legislation for issues of relevance to the Hindu American community, and develop, with guidance from senior staff, and carry out strategies to address said issues, including mobilizing constituencies and leveraging other organizations on important local, state, and national initiatives
    2. Expand HAF’s Hinduism 101/Dharma Ambassador Trainings. Hinduism 101 trainings would be targeted towards educators, various local, state, and federal agencies, and corporations
    3. Coordinate other programmatic initiatives as necessary to advance HAF’s strategic goals and objectives, and to address local community needs
  2. Build and leverage local relationships
    1. Government - develop and maintain relationships with key local, state, and national government officials; attend meetings/hearings at governmental bodies
    2. Media - build relationships with local media and respond to media inquiries as necessary
    3. Interorganizational coordination - serve as a spokesperson and official representative of HAF for interorganizational coordination with local temples, community groups, and interfaith organizations and to raise awareness of HAF’s work
  3. Development and Fundraising
    1. Expand the existing reach of HAF’s donor base to areas outside of Northern CA. Work with staff on regional fundraising opportunities and cultivation of potential high end donors
    2. Identify, recruit, and develop key local and regional leaders to support HAF’s work
    3. Maintain and enhance relationships with existing donors in the region


  • Bachelor’s degree (required). Degree/Experience in Policy, Development, Communications, Community Organization, and Advocacy helpful, but not required
  • Demonstrated excellence in communication, research/writing, organizational, and time management skills
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with multiple audiences and on diverse issues
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously
  • Familiarity with Hinduism and Hindu diaspora community outreach experience necessary
  • Fluency in online platforms such as Google Apps, social networks, commonly used office software
  • Experience with Salesforce or other donor/customer relationship management systems a plus
  • Must be willing and able to travel monthly and/or on weekends within the Western region
  • Salary and bonus commensurate to experience
  • Position base flexible within California, but proximity to major airport a must
