Meet HAF's 2018 Summer Interns

The Hindu American Foundation is pleased to welcome seven outstanding undergraduate students to its annual summer internship program. The program offers dual tracks: Congressional and Advocacy. Congressional track interns spend eight weeks in a Congressional office on Capitol Hill while Advocacy track interns work alongside HAF's fulltime staff in the Foundation's office.  Take a moment to learn more about our interns.

Advocacy Track Interns

Roshni Koul

Roshni Koul is a rising sophomore honors student at Loyola University Chicago, majoring in Pre-medicine/Anthropology. She is interning in the HAF office. She is passionate about Hinduism and Indian culture, and runs a Hindustani Sangeet singing school for children. Roshni is a Gannon Scholar and fights for social justice in the realm of gender inequality. She loves composing music and is the Music Director of LUC Raag, Loyola’s South Asian/Western fusion acapella team.

 


Daksh Patel

Daksh Patel is a rising junior at the University of Michigan Stephen M. Ross School of Business, studying finance and strategy. Daksh is interning in the HAF office. Growing up in Canton, Michigan, Daksh has always had a passion for volunteering at his local Mandir and serving his community to the best of his abilities.

 

Congressional Track Interns

Smriti Ahuja, Congressman Kevin Yoder (R-KS)

Smriti Ahuja is a rising junior at Carnegie Mellon University, pursuing double majors in International Relations and Politics, and Decision Sciences. She interns with Congressman Kevin Yoder of Kansas’ 3rd Congressional District. She is the winner of “Hindu Youth Award” by Hindus of Greater Houston. As an aspiring lawyer, she has a passion for all things law and politics and is an active member of the CMU Mock Trial team. Smriti mentors young girls in the Pittsburgh community about female empowerment through the Strong Women Strong Girls program.
 


Nikhil Jain, Congressman Ro Khanna (D-CA)

Nikhil Jain is a rising sophomore at Indiana University, majoring in International Studies and Central Eurasian Studies. He interns with Congressman Ro Khanna of California’s 17th district. Along with a passion for the performing arts, he also has a great interest in diplomacy, security policy, and international relations. After college, he plans to pursue a career in the field of public policy and diplomacy.

 


Kushal Modi, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL)

Kushal Modi is a rising sophomore at the University of Pennsylvania, studying International Relations with a minor in Legal Studies. He interns with Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi of Illinois’ 8th district. Kushal has had the opportunity to engage deeply with Hindu culture through programs at Arsha Vidya Gurukulam and through his local Hindu community. On campus, he is involved with the International Affairs Association and sings with the a cappella group Penn Masala.

 


Parth Shukla, Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI)

Parth Shukla is a rising junior at St Olaf College in Minnesota and is studying Economics with an emphasis on Public Policy. This summer Parth is excited to have the opportunity to work with Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii’s 2nd district. He plays football and lacrosse at school and with his remaining free time, he likes to read, watch TV, play video games, and go for walks in Minnesota’s natural lands.

 


Manisha Sunil, Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal (D-WA)

Manisha Sunil is a rising third-year Government and Politics major with a concentration in International Relations at the University of Maryland, College Park, and interns with Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal of Washington’s 7th district. On campus, she is co-founder and incoming President of IGNITE at Maryland, an organization that empowers women to run for office, and a Community Advocate and Executive Board member for the University Student Judiciary. In the past, she has had the opportunity to intern with the Maryland Office of the Public Defender and the Maryland General Assembly.
